Ball Tag is a variation of tag typically played with rubber balls similar to those in dodgeball. The person who is "it" must throw the ball at the others to tag them. If a person catches the ball thrown at them, the person who threw the ball is still "it", and the catcher can throw the ball anywhere on the course, making the "it's" job more difficult. If a ball that is bounced off a tagged person is caught by another player without the ball touching another object, the person who was tagged is it. The ball may not be picked up off the ground by anyone other than the "it." If a person who is not "it" intentionally picks up the ball, they are it for two turns, unless they tag the person who was orginally "it."
In Australia 'Ball Chasey' is often refered to as 'Brandy' and played among older players. The name originating from the variant in that the tennis ball is soaked in water and when hit will leave a mark and thus branded; this is also more violent in that players will intentionally try to hurt someone by aiming at the skin of players arms or legs.
